About your trainer
I've been teaching for most of my life.
I started at 14, giving riding lessons to local children. By 18, I was a qualified instructor teaching people aged from 2 to 82. Since then, I've trained horse owners, coached clients, and spent decades in professional environments where developing people's skills wasn't optional — it was essential.
Now, I bring all of that experience into training the next generation of Havening practitioners.
This isn't just about learning a technique. It's about understanding it, feeling confident using it, and knowing how to apply it safely and effectively with real people.

Training and certification
How the training works
Training format
16 hours
Typically delivered as 4 × 4-hour sessions or 2 × 8-hour sessions. All training is delivered over Zoom, so you can join from any location. Alternative formats may be available on request.
Certification requirements
To qualify as a certified Havening practitioner you will complete: 20 written case studies, 3 video case studies with different clients, and an online open-book knowledge review. All case studies are submitted to me as part of the mentoring process.
Timeframe
Up to 12 months
You have up to 12 months to complete your certification. Most people complete this within 3 to 6 months.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need any prior experience to join this training?
No. This training is designed for both complete beginners and those with existing experience in a related field, and for those looking to add a new approach to their existing practice.
What does the mentoring involve?
Support with case studies, guidance on working with clients, and help in building your confidence as you begin practising. Mentoring continues until you achieve full certification. Post-qualification support will be available for those who would like it.
Can I start working with clients after the training?
Yes. You will have the foundational skills to begin working with clients, with continued support and mentoring as you gain experience and work through your certification requirements.
What if I don’t want to start a business?
That's absolutely fine. Many people take this training for personal development, to support friends and family, or simply because they want to understand how this kind of change works.
How is the training delivered?
In small groups over Zoom, with live demonstrations, guided practice, and interactive learning throughout. You will actively use the techniques during the training itself.
Will I get to practise during the training?
Yes. This is a hands-on course. You will be actively learning, practising, and experiencing the techniques from early in the training — not just observing.
Can I combine this with other approaches like NLP?
Yes. Havening works very well alongside other modalities. I work alongside an NLP & Hypnosis trainer who can support you in developing additional skills once you are qualified, if that is the path you want to take.
After the training, what else do I need to do to qualify?
You will complete 23 case studies in total — 20 submitted as written case studies and 3 recorded for evaluation. These should be emailed to me as you complete them, and you will receive full instructions at the end of the training course. There is also an online science exam, which is open-book with multiple attempts available. I can support you with any points that need further clarification. Once you have successfully completed the certification process, a registration fee of $99 is payable to Havening HQ, with an annual renewal fee of $99 thereafter. Students based in the USA who do not already hold the relevant ethics qualification will also be required to complete an online ethics exam (currently $150).
How long does certification take?
That is largely up to you — it depends how quickly you work through your case studies and exams. I recommend starting the science exam as soon as possible after the training while the content is fresh in your mind. It can be completed in stages, as your answers are saved in the portal as you go. You are expected to reach certification within 12 months of your initial training. If extenuating circumstances mean you need longer, please let me know. With real dedication, it is possible to achieve certification in as little as one month.
Can I charge clients that I work with for my case studies?
This is a personal decision. Charging is not forbidden if you feel you are able to offer a valuable and effective service. In the early stages, however, you may find the sessions more useful as opportunities to develop your skills and confidence rather than as a source of income.
How can I continue developing after certification?
There are regular courses run by other Havening trainers and practitioners. Dr Steve Ruden, one of the founders of Havening, also runs regular training sessions which are usually free of charge to registered students and practitioners. As your skills develop, you may also get the opportunity to act as a facilitator in future training sessions — which is a valuable way to revisit the foundations. You can attend future training courses as a returning participant at a reduced fee.
Can I train others in Havening once I am qualified?
Training others in Havening is strictly forbidden without the prior consent of Havening HQ. If you have an audience that is interested in this area, please reach out to me to discuss possibilities — I would be very happy to explore how we might work together.
