In short

Who it's for

Practising therapists, coaches, NLP practitioners and hypnotherapists adding Havening to their toolkit. Also open to thoughtful beginners with no therapy background. (I started outside this world myself.)

What you walk away with

A clear understanding in, and practical experience of, the seven core Havening Techniques, and the confidence to apply them safely and appropriately with others. Successful completion of the training and mentored case studies leads to formal certification as a Havening Techniques Practitioner, accredited by Havening Techniques HQ.

Format

Live online. Four Monday evenings in July 2026, 6pm to 10.30pm UK time. One to six people. Plus an optional integration session afterwards.

Price

£995, flat. Pay by card or bank transfer, in full or over two, three or four months. A scholarship place may be available if cost is the real barrier.

Why add Havening now

A new tool for the client who gets stuck where talking can't reach.

You already do good work. NLP, hypnotherapy, coaching, whatever you trained in, you sit with people and you help them shift. And every so often someone gets stuck in a place your current tools can't quite reach. The thinking is sound, the rapport is there, and still the old response fires. The body remembers something the mind has already let go of.

Most of us trained in approaches that work through language. We talk, we reframe, we guide the imagination, and a great deal shifts that way. Havening works alongside language, and adds something to it. A calm, sensory process you guide a person through while they stay fully present and talking with you.

Clients tend to like that. There is no script to follow, no sense of being put under. They stay in the room, in the conversation, in charge. For people who are wary of being done to, that matters.

Havening was developed by Dr Ron Ruden and Dr Steve Ruden over a period of more than 20 years. It is grounded in neuroscience and informed by ongoing research and refinement into how the brain processes emotional experiences and memories. I teach it honestly: what the model proposes, what the practitioner actually does, and where careful, individualised language belongs. You will not leave here over-claiming.

Here is the practical edge. The four Monday evenings suit working therapists who can't give up whole weekends to train. Your weekends stay yours. Your Tuesday-to-Friday practice keeps running. You learn in the hours you would otherwise spend in front of the television, and you walk into Monday's session having had six days to let the last one settle.

Through self-Havening and guided practice with fellow students, you begin to develop both an understanding and confidence in the techniques.

What a certifying trainer said

You have provided a highly effective training experience for your participant in every possible way. Your delivery is clear, structured, and engaging. Overall, this reflects a high level of skill and care in your teaching.

Havening Techniques certifying trainer

That came from the person who assessed my own teaching for certification. It is the part of all this I am quietly proudest of, because teaching is the thing I have actually been doing longest.

How I got here, in case it helps

I came to this the long way round.

I have been teaching for over forty years. I started at fourteen, giving riding lessons to children in the village. By eighteen I was a qualified instructor, teaching people aged from two to eighty-two. After that came twenty-two years fitting saddles, which is its own kind of teaching, reading a horse and a rider and finding practical solutions to problems that are not always obvious.

None of that was therapy. For a long time my day job was accountancy. I came to this work as a client, not a clinician. I spent decades stuck in my own pattern with food, tried everything, then joined a study using Havening and felt something move that nothing else had touched. I trained as a practitioner, added NLP, hypnosis and EFT ("tapping"), and eventually qualified as a Certified Havening Trainer.

I tell you this for one reason. If you are a practising therapist, you will pick this up quickly, and I will meet you where you already work. And if you have no therapy background and you are wondering whether someone like you could really learn this, the honest answer is yes. I did, from a standing start, in my sixties. Where you begin is far less important than your curiosity, commitment, and willingness to practise.

What's covered

Four evenings, one clear arc.

Here's the arc of the four sessions. We move at the group's pace, so the order shifts a little depending on the group, but these are the four chunks we work through.

The ground it stands on

What Havening is, where it came from, and the scientific theory behind it, taught as a working model rather than as settled science. You learn the core touch and apply it to yourself first, because you cannot guide another person through something you have not felt.

The protocols

The seven main Havening protocols, what each one is for, and how to apply them. When you would reach for one over another. How to choose, with a real person in front of you, what to work on and what to leave alone for now.

Working with another person

Safety, pacing, and the practitioner's real job, which is creating enough safety that the work can happen at all. You practise on each other through the central part of the training, where the theory comes to life. My role is to observe and suggest where something could be done better, stepping in only if a session needs it.

Bringing it together

We review the course, work through any questions still open, and make sure you feel confident to start working on your own. How Havening sits alongside the work you already do, how to introduce it to a client who has never heard of it, and the language that keeps you and your clients safe.

The optional integration session comes a little later, once you have tried the work for real and arrived with questions only experience could have raised.

Each evening runs four hours of teaching with breaks, sixteen hours of training in total, plus an optional four-hour integration session afterwards. Times shown in UK time. Group size is small on purpose. One person minimum, four ideal, six the cap. Nobody hides at the back of this room, because there is no back of the room.

Can't make those Mondays? The next cohort runs Monday evenings through September: 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th September 2026, same time, same format. Get in touch if you'd rather aim for that one.

What you get

Everything you need to learn it properly, and keep going.

A place on the live four-week training, in a group small enough that you are never just a face on a screen.

The optional four-hour integration session afterwards, to share experiences, ask questions and expand your knowledge once you have used the work for real.

A spot in my students' WhatsApp community, where the group keeps talking and asking long after the four Mondays are over.

Access to a closed Facebook group where students, practitioners and trainers discuss techniques and findings, and where you can ask questions.

Full mentoring all the way through to certification, with the time set aside to do it properly. You are not left to find your way alone once the evenings end.

A teacher who would rather you came out of this able and steady than impressed. You'll do the work. I'll show you how.

Mentoring through to certification

You don't qualify on the last Monday. You qualify when you're ready.

The four evenings teach you the work. Certification comes after, and you are not left alone to find your way through it.

I mentor every student all the way to qualification. Guidance on your case studies. Steadying when your confidence wobbles, which it will, because everyone's does. Help applying Havening with a real person who has brought you a real problem. A straight answer when you are unsure whether you are doing it right.

I keep my numbers small for exactly this reason. Mentoring takes real time, and I would rather give each student the attention the process deserves than spread myself thin across a crowd. You finish the four Mondays having learned a skill. You finish the mentoring having become a practitioner.

What does Havening offer that other approaches don't?

Accessible to learn, with plenty of depth to grow into.

Havening offers a simple, practical way of working that many people find both accessible and engaging. It adds a physical and sensory element to the change process, while allowing the person to remain fully present, talking and participating throughout.

One of the things practitioners often appreciate is how quickly they can begin using the techniques, while still having plenty of depth to explore as their confidence grows. Sessions can be gentle, creative and, at times, surprisingly enjoyable for both practitioner and client.

If you are already trained in approaches such as NLP, EFT or hypnosis, Havening sits comfortably alongside them. Many practitioners choose to integrate Havening into their existing work, drawing on different approaches as appropriate for the individual. This training, however, focuses on Havening itself, giving you a solid understanding of the model, the protocols and how to use them safely and effectively.

Why train with me?

This training may be a great fit if you...

Probably for you if...

You want to start a new path helping others

You don't necessarily need a background in therapy or coaching. This training is comprehensive and gives you everything you need to begin working with clients confidently and safely.

You already work with people and want a powerful new tool

Havening works beautifully alongside other approaches. You'll learn seven foundational techniques that will give you a highly effective additional toolkit.

You want to help people, but not necessarily start a business

Some people simply want a better way to handle life's challenges, for themselves and for those around them. This work can be used with friends, family, and in everyday situations.

You're interested in building a practice of your own

This training gives you a solid foundation. For those who wish to expand their skillset, I work alongside an NLP and Hypnosis trainer who can offer additional training opportunities.

You're looking for something that actually works

Havening is practical, direct, and often creates significant change in a relatively short space of time.

Probably not for you if...

You're looking for a quick certificate without real understanding

This isn't a tick-box course. Engagement, curiosity, and a willingness to practise are essential.

You're not open to trying something different

Havening is a neuroscience-informed, psychosensory approach. If you're not open to exploring a different way of working, this may feel uncomfortable.

You want everything done for you

You'll be fully supported through mentoring, but developing as a practitioner requires you to show up, practise, and apply what you're learning.

You're expecting a purely theoretical course

This training is practical. You'll be actively learning, practising, and experiencing the techniques, not just listening or reading.

If you're curious, open to learning, and want a skillset that is both powerful and practical, you're in the right place.

If the cost is the real thing standing in your way, and you would be here if it weren't, get in touch and tell me honestly. A scholarship place may be available for exactly that. I came to this work without much money to spare, and I have not forgotten it.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a qualified therapist already?

No. Most people on the training are practising therapists, coaches or NLP and hypnotherapy practitioners adding Havening to what they do, and they tend to move quickly. There is also a route for people with no clinical background. It asks for more practice, and I will be honest with you about that, but it is a real route. I took it myself.

Is it really all online?

Yes, all four sessions run live on Zoom. You see me, I see you, the group works together in real time. It is not a recorded course you watch alone. The evening slot and the live teaching are both choices, not accidents of the calendar.

What is Havening, in one honest sentence?

A gentle approach that combines attention, recall and a specific kind of touch, used by a trained practitioner to help someone settle the emotional charge of a difficult memory, while they stay fully present and in charge throughout.

How quickly will I be able to use it?

Many practitioners are surprised how soon they can begin using the techniques, with plenty of depth still to explore as their confidence grows. The four evenings give you the grounding, and the mentoring afterwards is where it settles into real practice.

What does qualifying actually involve, after the four evenings?

The training gives you the skills. To certify, you complete twenty written case studies and three recorded video case studies with different people, plus an online open-book science review you can take in stages and revisit as often as you need. You send the case studies to me as you go, and I mentor you through all of them. You have up to twelve months, though most people are done inside three to six. A registration fee is payable to Havening HQ on certification, which I will walk you through when the time comes.

I'm based outside the UK. Does anything change for me?

The training itself is the same wherever you join from. Depending on where you are, you may be asked to show evidence of training in ethics, or to complete a short course provided by the Havening organisation, as part of certification. Tell me where you are based and I will let you know exactly what applies.

Do I have to attend all four sessions live?

Yes. Attending all four live sessions is essential, because the live practice is a key part of the training and cannot be picked up from a recording. In exceptional circumstances some accommodation may be possible, so talk to me early if something looks difficult. You are also welcome to re-take the training later at a discounted rate to refresh or reinforce what you have learned, and experienced students and qualified practitioners are sometimes invited to help out on future courses as facilitators, which is an excellent way to repeat the training at no cost.

How small is the group, really?

One person minimum, four ideal, six absolute maximum. Small enough that you practise properly and get the attention you need, rather than sitting quietly while a roomful of strangers takes turns.

What if money is the only thing stopping me?

Then say so. A scholarship place may be available for people for whom cost is the genuine blocker. Get in touch and tell me your situation honestly. No awkwardness, no form to grovel through.
